Switching on big energy savings

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust needed to cut energy costs and carbon emissions while replacing ageing heating, lighting, and energy control systems. Centrica Business Solutions was selected to supply, finance, and help operate and maintain a major energy services package, including CHP/trigeneration technology and related energy infrastructure upgrades.

Centrica Business Solutions installed an ENER-G 1150kWe combined cooling heat and power (CCHP) system, new boilers, a chilled water system with absorption chiller, lighting upgrades, and a new building energy management system. The project was delivered with zero capital investment from the Trust and is saving more than £780,000 a year while reducing CO2 emissions by around 2,000 tonnes annually, improving patient comfort and reducing maintenance risk.
