Smart energy creates smarter retail

Largest Supermarket Retailing Company, one of the UK’s largest supermarket retailers, needed a smarter way to generate and consume energy across its warehouses while reducing costs and meeting stricter carbon-reduction requirements. Its large distribution facilities were especially challenging to heat and cool efficiently, making energy use and supply resilience a major concern. Centrica Business Solutions addressed this with a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) solution.

Centrica Business Solutions implemented a containerised ENER-G 1.5MWe CHP unit with an MTU genset and a custom Exhaust Gas Heat Exchanger to support hot water, heating, and low-temperature chilled water for the warehouse. The project is expected to deliver £400,000 in annual gross savings, displace 11,637 MWh from the grid each year, and reduce CO2 emissions by 5,775 tonnes, while creating a blueprint for rollout to other sites.
