Prominent UK bakery slashes emissions

Largest Bakery Plant, one of Europe’s largest bakery operations in the UK, was looking to make its new facility as energy efficient and sustainable as possible while producing more than two million products each day. To help manage energy demand and control costs, it worked with Centrica Business Solutions and its Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technology.

Centrica Business Solutions installed a 1MWe CHP unit, recovering exhaust gases for steam generation and hot water for reuse across the site, along with a ten-year maintenance contract. The solution is expected to cut energy costs by around £400,000 per year and save 1,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, paying for itself in about three years.
