A Centrica Business Solutions Case Study

Preview of the Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport Case Study

New Energy at the Airport

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, one of northern Italy’s major airports, needed to redevelop its energy production system as part of a broader modernization effort. The airport turned to Centrica Business Solutions for a combined heat and power (CHP) and trigeneration solution to support its heating, cooling, and electricity needs.

Centrica Business Solutions designed, installed, and launched a 1,166 kW trigeneration system using a CHP E1200 NG unit, which also provided 259 tonnes of cooling capacity. The system was installed and tested quickly with minimal disruption, and it now supports the airport’s operations, serving more than 6.58 million passengers while reducing energy costs, cutting CO2 emissions by up to 30%, and improving energy security.
