Hotel uses data to roll out upgraded CHP system

Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel, a 118-room hotel in Kilkenny City with leisure and conference facilities, needed to upgrade its aging Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system to better match its current heating and electricity demands and continue reducing operating costs. The hotel worked with Centrica Business Solutions to find a more appropriately sized energy solution.

Centrica Business Solutions, working with partner Temp Technology, installed a new CHP unit that operates from 8am to 11pm and uses stored hot water overnight to maintain temperatures automatically. The upgrade delivered around €47,000 in annual energy savings, payback in less than three years, 25% higher uptime, and an estimated 312-tonne annual reduction in carbon emissions, while meeting 65% of heat demand and 40% of electrical demand.
