Council cuts energy consumption by 34%

Durham County Council worked with Centrica Business Solutions to improve the energy efficiency of its estate and cut carbon emissions. The council wanted a long-term energy management strategy and a practical way to reduce energy costs across selected buildings, including large vehicle depots.

Centrica Business Solutions carried out a detailed energy assessment and designed and installed a package of upgrades, including LED lighting, pipe insulation, automatic doors, and destratification fans. The result was a 34% reduction in electricity consumption, equal to 380,000 kWh saved, and £44,000 in annual energy cost savings, while also improving working conditions and operational efficiency.
