Case Study: United Way of Metropolitan Dallas strengthens nonprofit leadership capacity with Center for Creative Leadership

A Center for Creative Leadership Case Study

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas launches a 9-month nonprofit leadership institute with Center for Creative Leadership

The customer, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas through its Southern Dallas Thrives initiative, faced a challenge where local nonprofit leaders needed stronger leadership development to scale their community impact but lacked the budget for it. The vendor, the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), used its Leadership Explorer for the Nonprofit Sector (LENS) report to identify specific capability gaps and design a tailored response.

The Center for Creative Leadership implemented the Southern Dallas Executive Leadership Institute, a custom nine-month program combining assessments, coaching, and in-person sessions on topics like strategic thinking and collaboration. The solution, funded by a collaborative of four foundations, created a supportive community for eight diverse nonprofit leaders, strengthening their skills and organizations. The program deepened relationships between funders and participants and established a model for sustainable leadership development in the community.
