A Center for Creative Leadership Case Study
RPM International, Inc., a $7.3 billion multinational manufacturing company, faced a significant challenge in effective communication across its complex network of 80 business units and 17,300 employees. This issue was identified as a top concern in employee surveys, prompting the company to partner with the Center for Creative Leadership to build a stronger culture of feedback and improve connections between associates and leadership.
The Center for Creative Leadership implemented its Better Conversations Every Day program, which utilized tools like the Situation-Behavior-Impact (SBI) model to teach coaching and candid conversation skills. RPM scaled the program company-wide by training internal facilitators. The results were overwhelmingly positive, with 98% of participants reporting improved listening skills and 99% stating they could apply the learned skills to their jobs. To date, over 1,267 employees have been trained, with the program becoming a popular and impactful initiative within the company.
