Mercy Health, a large Midwest-based health system with 38,000 associates, faced a challenge with its competitive and locally-focused culture that hindered systemwide collaboration. To ensure long-term sustainability and carry its mission forward, Mercy Health partnered with the Center for Creative Leadership to develop its next generation of leaders.
The Center for Creative Leadership created the Mercy Health Leadership Academy, a 14-month development program for high-potential executives. The solution included evaluation, classroom sessions, team-based action projects, and coaching. Results included participant improvement in all 18 leadership competencies and significant advances in collaboration. Measurable impacts included a 7.5% increase in leadership diversity and 15 key initiatives advanced through action learning projects that improved clinical effectiveness and patient safety.
