The Duke University School of Nursing partnered with the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) to achieve its goal of becoming the premier nursing school in the United States. The challenge was to engage leaders at all levels in a collaborative change process, requiring a clear understanding of the informal relationships and structures that could support or inhibit this transformation.

CCL implemented an Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) to map the school's informal working and social patterns. This analysis, unique to the organization, allowed the change initiative to be planned and executed successfully within a tight timeframe with strong faculty and staff support. The vendor, Center for Creative Leadership, reports that the school's leadership agreed the entire restructuring outcome would not have been as successful without first conducting the network analysis.
