How a Security Team Automated Attack Surface Management

Leading Innovator Organization, a state agency supporting the Indiana General Assembly, faced a rapidly expanding attack surface as remote work increased and its team moved part of its infrastructure to private cloud and AWS. With a small security staff and limited resources, it needed a way to continuously discover and track Internet-facing assets, exposed services, certificates, and potential misconfigurations. Censys Attack Surface Management (ASM) was used to help provide that visibility.

Using the Censys ASM Platform, the team automated port scanning, monitored employee endpoints working from home, tracked certificate expirations, and improved cloud visibility during migration. Censys gave the organization ongoing insight into exposed ports, unsanctioned cloud assets, and security drift, helping reduce manual effort and improve confidence in protecting its environment. The result was significant time savings and peace of mind for the security team, especially as the move to the cloud continued.
