How BP Scaled Process Mining With a Center of Excellence

BP, the global energy company, needed a better way to standardize and optimize its diverse procurement and finance processes across a large enterprise. Using Celonis on top of SAP, BP’s process mining Center of Excellence sought to identify where processes were deviating from its “happy path” and uncover inefficiencies in procure-to-pay and related workflows.

Celonis helped BP visualize process variations, secure stakeholder buy-in, and quantify the impact of change with clear data. The vendor’s Action Engine automated manual smart-receipting follow-ups, and Task Mining exposed hidden manual steps in invoice processing, reducing time spent on manual chases and supporting broader automation; for example, BP highlighted that invoice processing averaged 27 minutes, with Celonis revealing the manual gaps behind that work.
