The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Digital Forensic Squad faced challenges with a manual, thumb-drive-based workflow for sharing digital evidence, which slowed down investigations and hindered real-time collaboration between examiners and detectives in the field. To modernize its operations, the squad turned to vendor Cellebrite and implemented its cloud-based evidence sharing platform, Cellebrite Guardian.

The solution enabled real-time evidence sharing and collaboration. In a critical 2024 homicide investigation, Cellebrite Inseyets successfully extracted evidence from a phone that had been wiped twice by the suspect. This evidence, shared instantly via Guardian, was instrumental in securing a conviction that resulted in 21 life sentences. The squad also reported saving hours per device on processing and greatly streamlined its evidence distribution workflow.
