A Celerant Technology Case Study
Farmers Home Furniture, a fast-growing, family‑owned retailer founded in 1949 with more than 165 stores and 1,600 employees, struggled with an outdated POS that couldn’t handle furniture‑specific needs: big‑ticket financing, delayed deliveries, store‑to‑store transfers and time‑sensitive DC scheduling. The legacy system forced double‑keying of credit applications, required nightly batch processing that often failed, and relied on manual delivery clipboards, all of which hindered growth and forced business processes to be dictated by rigid software.
Farmers implemented a heavily customized Celerant Command Retail solution that integrated financing into the POS, cut and simplified screens, eliminated rekeying, and moved critical processes to real time. A SQL data warehouse and new delivery screens automated reporting and scheduling, stores were brought online in about six months, sales transactions require 45–50 fewer keystrokes, training time was reduced, and the company gained faster reporting, partial delivery payments and a platform for future e-commerce and EDI enhancements.
