Case Study: Radio Netherlands Worldwide achieves 90% reduction in server time-outs and improved availability in emerging markets with CDNetworks

A CDNetworks Case Study

Preview of the Radio Netherlands Worldwide Case Study

Radio Netherlands Worldwide Improves Service Quality by 90% in Emerging Markets

Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW) is a government-funded international broadcaster based in Hilversum that delivers news, background and cultural programming in ten languages to audiences in challenging, information-deficit regions. As RNW shifted from shortwave to internet distribution it faced slow, unreliable access in key emerging markets (Asia, South America, Africa) and frequent server time-outs that limited its ability to reach target audiences and expand video/audio offerings.

RNW deployed CDNetworks’ Content Acceleration in July 2010 and added Dynamic Web Acceleration in August 2011 to speed delivery of static and dynamic content. The CDN rollout improved global availability, cut server time-outs by 90%, boosted download speeds, enabled handling of unexpected traffic peaks, supported live web video (an event that raised transferred data by 800% without issues), and helped RNW grow a 12.3 million-visitor audience with further growth expected.
