Unitec, New Zealand’s largest institute of technology with 20,000 students across three campuses and 150+ programmes, faced a fragmented, Excel‑based budgeting process. More than 100 departmental spreadsheets required a five‑person team months to consolidate, creating manual effort, errors, inconsistent data and an inability to model scenarios needed for a $250M business transformation.

Unitec implemented Tagetik with the CFO Group (Aug–Nov 2015), using ETL from Oracle, driver‑based planning and centralized data entry so the finance team could administer the system. The result: manual processing fell from 95% to 5%, consolidated reports are available in minutes instead of weeks, staff costing transparency improved, scenario modelling became possible, and the platform is being expanded to annual reporting.
