Well Aware Raised $77,000 in One Week to Provide Clean Water to 40,000 People

Well Aware is a small Austin-based nonprofit founded in 2006 that raises funds to provide clean water in East Africa. With a lean staff and prior Shower Strike proceeds of about $25–30K, the organization faced the challenge of rapidly scaling a week-long “Shower Strike” campaign to recruit volunteers, engage donors (especially younger networks), and maximize visibility with limited time and resources.

Using the CauseVox platform combined with a volunteer-led approach, targeted social media, donor coaching, and sponsor outreach, Well Aware empowered over 100 global volunteers to create personal fundraising pages and spread the campaign. The result: more than $77,000 raised in one week—funding five wells to bring clean water to roughly 40,000 people—driven by ~800 donors, 654 online gifts (avg. $66), and standout pages that raised up to $6,760.
