SXSW Community Raised Over $120,000

CauseVox helped the SXSW community launch SXSWcares in response to the 9.0-magnitude Japan earthquake and tsunami that struck on March 11, 2011. Faced with an urgent need for disaster relief and the time-sensitive window of the SXSW conference, the grassroots team aimed to raise $10,000 in five days while capturing the attention of a large, online-savvy audience.

Using the CauseVox platform they spun up a co-branded giving site in 80 minutes and combined personal fundraising pages, targeted social media (#sxswcares/#sxsw4japan), influencer outreach, partnerships (including the American Red Cross and the band Hanson), and offline events. The campaign raised over $120,000 (more than $89,500 online) in about ten days, generating 200+ supporter pages, strong social buzz (12,000+ Twitter mentions, 10,000+ Facebook likes), and an average donation of $72.
