She’s the First is a startup nonprofit that sponsors girls in developing countries to become the first in their families to finish secondary school. With a tiny staff and a volunteer-driven model, the organization launched its first large-scale fitness fundraiser, Run the World (March–June 2013), aiming to raise $50,000 by mobilizing volunteer runners and partnering with fitness studios — a challenge that required rapid partnership-building, tight coordination, and strong volunteer management.

Using CauseVox’s customizable pages and individual progress tracking, She’s the First created a friendly competitive spirit among volunteers and studio partners, powering race fundraising, studio classes, and peer-led campaigns. The effort raised approximately $40,544 (about 81% of the $50,000 goal), produced standout fundraisers (a $9,094 marathon effort and a $2,666 campus team), built a network of studio partners, and produced clear takeaways for future campaigns (more lead time with studios, branded gear, and continued volunteer engagement).
