One Girl Raised $42,000 to Educate Girls in Africa

One Girl is an Australia-based nonprofit (founded 2009) that provides education for girls in rural Africa. To fund scholarships and a social enterprise called LaunchPad, they ran a week-long “Do It In A Dress” campaign with the goal of raising about $40,000 to send over 100 girls to school. The campaign got off to a slow start—finding the right manager was difficult—so founders organized a small team and recruited dozens of supporters to drive the effort.

They used a fun, low-barrier approach: supporters donned school dresses, used local media, social sharing, downloadable campaign packs, weekly supporter emails, and clear donation tiers on the CauseVox platform. The strategy drove strong engagement and donations—raising roughly $42,000 via 76 fundraising pages and 737 online gifts (average ~$526 per page)—while boosting awareness and volunteer involvement for future campaigns.
