Three months before GivingTuesday, a widely publicized video of domestic violence caused an unexpected 84% surge in call volume and increased public attention, creating both an urgent demand for services and a high-stakes moment for fundraising outreach.
To respond, the hotline ran a relatable GivingTuesday campaign called #Gingerbreadforgood, asking for $20 donations that symbolically added a gingerbread person to a village to show community support. The simple ask and shareable imagery, amplified by national media appearances from the CEO, drove strong engagement, widespread coverage (five news crews), and such a large response that the organization plans for more space and capacity for next year’s campaign.
