Asian American Arts Alliance Uses Peer-to-Peer to Raise $23,000

Asian American Arts Alliance is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit that supports Asian American artists and builds community. Historically dependent on grants, an annual benefit, and email appeals, the organization struggled to grow individual giving and to convey its broader impact beyond a narrow constituency.

To address this, they launched a one-month peer-to-peer campaign, #IAmMoreThan, mobilizing 18 personal fundraisers (many board members), producing a campaign video and targeted messaging, and leveraging corporate gift-matching. With a single staffer managing the effort, they surpassed their $23,000 goal—raising $23,359—and welcomed 94% new donors, demonstrating the power of community-driven fundraising.
