Stratoscale Quintuples Network Throughput with Cato

Stratoscale, a cloud-building and on-premises virtualization company with an Israeli datacenter and R&D offices in North America, was struggling with poor remote-developer performance: SSL VPN transfers from North America to Israel were limited to about 2 Mbit/s, meaning large Docker images could take hours to retrieve. MPLS was too costly and traditional WAN optimization was site-to-site only, so Stratoscale turned to Cato Networks and its Cato Cloud service for a cloud-native WAN alternative.

Cato Networks connected Stratoscale’s datacenter firewall to the Cato Cloud via redundant IPsec tunnels and had remote developers use the Cato Client to route traffic over Cato’s global backbone. Cato’s packet-loss correction, TCP optimizations and global route optimization increased throughput from ~2 Mbit/s to 17 Mbit/s—more than an 8x improvement—significantly speeding developer workflows; Stratoscale is now also planning to deploy Cato’s Firewall as a Service for unified security and segmentation.
