Pharmaceutical Leader Replaces MPLS with Cato Cloud, Cutting Costs While Quadrupling Capacity

Centrient Pharmaceuticals, a global leader in antibiotics, statins, and antifungals, was constrained by an expensive, low‑bandwidth MPLS backbone connecting its datacenter and nine manufacturing/offices worldwide. MPLS caused slow application response, long site provisioning times (three–four months), and high recurring costs (MPLS was roughly 4× the price for about one‑quarter of the bandwidth). After evaluating SD‑WAN options, Centrient selected Cato Networks’ Cato Cloud (with Cato Sockets) to address performance, agility, and cost issues.

Cato Networks implemented a staged migration to Cato Cloud, installing Cato Sockets alongside MPLS, then cutting over all sites in about a month with 30‑minute cutovers. Centrient replaced typical 6 Mbps MPLS links with aggregated local Internet links delivering ~20 Mbps per site (burstable to 40 Mbps) and higher datacenter capacity (up to 50–100 Mbps), reduced network costs by roughly 75% versus MPLS, improved application responsiveness and voice quality, and gained deep visibility and faster site provisioning and support.
