Humphreys Replaces MPLS, SD-WAN Appliances, and Mobile VPN with Cato Cloud

Humphreys & Partners Architects, a Dallas‑based architectural firm, was hamstrung by an MPLS WAN that was expensive, slow and inflexible—new sites could take ~90 days to provision and international links were cost‑prohibitive (e.g., a 1.5 Mbps MPLS circuit in Uruguay for $1,500/month). Attempts to add SD‑WAN edge appliances introduced complexity, reliability issues and constant alerts, while mobile VPNs and appliance shipping made global offices hard to connect, according to IT Director Paul Burns.

Humphreys replaced MPLS, SD‑WAN appliances and mobile VPN with Cato Networks’ Cato Cloud (SD‑WAN as a service), using IPsec tunnels and the Cato mobile client to connect global sites. The Cato Networks deployment simplified operations, enabled a 10‑minute Uruguay setup, delivered predictable voice quality (allowing migration of RTP traffic to Cato Cloud), cut planned bandwidth/MPLS costs, improved remote‑worker productivity, and surfaced security threats—converging networking, security and mobility on a managed backbone.
