The Power of IFC file for Cost-Effective Preservation of Norway’s Viking Ship Museum

The Viking Ship Museum, home to the world's best-preserved Viking ships, faced the challenge of a major expansion requiring meticulous coordination to protect the fragile cultural heritage site. The project was required to use openBIM and the IFC format from the outset, creating a need for a powerful collaboration platform. The vendor Catenda provided its solution, Catenda Hub, to serve as the central platform for this complex endeavor.

Catenda implemented Catenda Hub as the central collaboration platform for all stakeholders, enabling the management of over 170 IFC files and facilitating coordination through integrated issue tracking and custom data fields. The solution delivered significant results by providing a single source of truth, automating data synchronization, and saving time through robotic process automation. This centralized, open data approach proved crucial for cost-effective preservation, allowing the project team to easily revisit and reactivate previously planned features to control budget overruns.
