A Catalogic Software Case Study
The University of Lübeck’s IT Service Center faced unreliable, resource‑intensive backups across a heterogeneous environment of VMware/Hyper‑V virtual servers, various Linux distributions and Microsoft Exchange. Email could only be restored at database level and server or mailbox recovery often took many hours—sometimes 10–14 hours—causing long delays for users and heavy operational overhead for IT.
By deploying Catalogic DPX with a NetApp FAS2240, the university gained snapshot‑based VM recovery, bare‑metal restore and mailbox‑level Exchange recovery plus powerful de‑duplication. Recoveries that once took hours now complete in about 15 minutes, backup volume is reduced by roughly 90% (cutting storage and capital needs), backups run faster, and IT staff can reallocate saved time to development and support projects—while the platform remains adaptable to future changes.
