UFA Protects its Production Systems with Catalogic

UFA, one of Germany’s leading film and TV producers with production sites in Potsdam, Berlin and Cologne, was struggling with explosive digital data growth: shrinking backup windows, long recovery times, heavy network and storage impact, and an 80% virtualized estate of around 200 VMs. The company also needed any new solution to integrate with its existing NetApp storage and legacy tape backups for historical recovery.

Topmedia implemented Catalogic DPX on UFA’s NetApp platform, using block-level deduplication, snapshot-based backups, instant recovery and tape integration (500‑slot enterprise library) to cut storage and network load and eliminate backup windows. The result was centralized, high-performance protection across locations, recovery of multi‑TB files in minutes, reliable disaster recovery and continued access to historical tapes.
