A Catalogic Software Case Study
Panasonic Electric Works Europe AG was struggling with an unstable, decentralized backup environment across 11 remote sites—each using local tape masters—which produced frequent failures, missed daily backups as data grew (only ~60% of data backed up with a 70% success rate), long recovery times measured in days, and a heavy administrative burden (over 20 hours per week). End-of-support for their tape library and lack of vendor reliability made a dependable, centralized recovery solution urgent.
Working with partner IS4IT, Panasonic moved to Catalogic DPX with NetApp FAS in a disk-to-disk-to-tape architecture and centralized snapshot-based backups at HQ, using tape only for long-term archive. The change delivered 100% of data backed up with a 100% success rate, RTOs reduced to minutes, admin time cut to under two hours per week (with help desk handling routine restores), and lower costs while ensuring full business continuity.
