A Modernized Backup System with the Fastest Backup and Recovery Capability

KROENERT GmbH & Co KG, a Hamburg‑based leader in coating and laminating machinery for paper, film and foil, faced dramatic data growth after acquiring a subsidiary. Its legacy tape‑based backup could not keep up—full backups took up to a week and disaster recovery could take one to two weeks—putting operations and revenue at risk. The IT team needed a faster, easy‑to‑operate backup and recovery solution that could be deployed within a week.

KROENERT implemented Catalogic DPX with a NetApp FAS2240 backup target at a secondary site (tape retained only for long‑term archiving). The solution was deployed in under a week and cut full backup time from one week to about 30 minutes and recovery from days to roughly 30 minutes, with virtual machines recoverable from a single backup. The €50k investment paid for itself within months, improving restore options and avoiding potentially millions in downtime losses.
