Ghent University Hospital - Customer Case Study

Ghent University Hospital led the DIANA study, an international prospective multicenter observational cohort investigating antibiotic use and de‑escalation in ICU patients. Facing the challenge of collecting standardized data across roughly 150 centers and an estimated 2,500 participants with limited funding and a complex 436‑page eCRF, the team selected Castor EDC for electronic data collection because of its user‑friendliness, affordability and scalability.

Castor EDC enabled the investigators to build the lengthy eCRF quickly (copy‑and‑paste functions and training workshops), monitor data entry in real time, and onboard new centers and users rapidly—new centers were added every few days. As a result, the study is on track to enroll ~2,500 participants from up to 150 centers, delivering a large multicenter dataset that the team believes would not have been feasible without Castor EDC.
