Case Study: Kraft achieves $1.2M in healthcare savings and reduced ER usage with Castlight Health

A Castlight Health Case Study

Kraft’s new recipe for reducing wasteful healthcare spending

Kraft Foods Group, a North American packaged-foods company with about 25,000 employees, faced double-digit healthcare cost increases and needed to control spending for a widely dispersed manufacturing population while preserving employee health and productivity. After an initial HDHP roll-out drew mixed reactions and its transparency tool proved inadequate, Kraft sought a more user-friendly way to help employees shop for care and make informed decisions.

Kraft implemented a full‑replacement HDHP supported by Castlight’s health benefits platform, combined with targeted communications and plant roadshows to drive engagement. Results included registration rising to ~54%, a 9% reduction in healthcare cost trend for Castlight users (totaling more than $1.2M in savings), a 21% drop in ER use with a 9x increase in telehealth, and meaningful declines in imaging, office visit and lab spending, plus near‑universal participation in health assessments.
