ArcBest, a leading logistics company, set out to strengthen employee health, engagement and cost management by consolidating benefits and boosting preventive care and access across its workforce — including field employees. The challenge was to create a single, easy-to-use benefits experience that increased utilization of telemedicine and second-opinion services, incentivized healthy behavior, and produced measurable clinical and financial outcomes.

ArcBest launched a unified benefits platform (Castlight), telemedicine (Dr. on Demand), an expert second‑opinion service (2nd.MD) and a rewards/activity program. Early results include >800 telemedicine visits (about 40% above the first‑year target) with 70% registration, Castlight adoption in 70% of households and an 89% return rate with 10,604 searches, and wellness participation of 62% for employees (58% spouses, 45% field). Clinical improvements included year‑over‑year reductions in diabetes, hypertension, asthma and depression prevalence, a 34% drop in inpatient admissions and 9% fewer ER visits for long‑term wellness participants, and a 12‑point increase in overall care‑gap compliance (to 50.22%) with large gains in cancer screening and preventive visits.
