Adobe designs plan to slash its multi-million dollar ACA “Cadillac” tax, while offering attractive HSAs to employees

Adobe, a global leader in digital marketing and media with more than 13,000 employees, faced a looming Affordable Care Act excise (“Cadillac”) tax that could cost the company millions. To control costs while preserving generous benefits and employee satisfaction, Adobe planned to move to a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) paired with health savings accounts, but the initial plan-provider technology offered a poor user experience that risked low adoption.

Adobe implemented Castlight’s health benefits platform and backed the rollout with strong communications, incentives and internal influencers. The result: 83% of eligible employees enrolled in the HDHP (exceeding the target by 315%), potential Cadillac-tax exposure fell from millions to the low hundreds of thousands, over 40% of HDHP enrollees actively used Castlight, and users saw measurable savings (about 17% less on advanced imaging and nearly 37% less on lab services).
