Microsoft speeds up refactoring of Schneider Electric’s major applications with CAST Highlight

Schneider Electric’s ETAP division, maker of the Switchboard Engine suite and a 3D platform for engineering visuals and e‑commerce assets, was weighing a move to the cloud but hesitated over feasibility after years of incremental development across diverse technologies. The challenge was to quickly and accurately assess the cloud maturity and migration readiness of 22 interdependent components to determine what would need refactoring or remediation for a move to Microsoft Azure.

Microsoft used CAST Highlight to run an automated cloud‑maturity analysis and Gartner 5R segmentation across all components, revealing complexity, cloud blockers, remediation needs, and estimated effort and cost. The insights identified which components to refactor for Azure, surfaced open‑source risks, and highlighted green‑software improvement opportunities—saving the client months of manual discovery work and enabling confident, strategic migration planning.
