Mercer, the global consulting firm, faced growing technical debt and software resiliency risks across a large portfolio of custom applications built up over decades through mergers and acquisitions. Manual tracking of obsolescence was slow and fragmented, making it harder for Mercer and its CIO team to keep systems reliable and ready for future needs. CAST Highlight was used to provide objective insights into application resiliency, technical debt, and efficiency.

CAST implemented CAST Highlight to automatically analyze Mercer’s applications and feed those insights into its ATOM program and Vital Signs dashboard, with integrations into ITSM and development backlogs. The result was continuous, fact-based monitoring across all applications, proactive avoidance of production outages, and 12-month advance notice of end-of-life technologies. Mercer also piloted generative AI with CAST Highlight’s Green Software Insights to help remediate inefficient code.
