Hapag-Lloyd, a major shipping and logistics company, needed a more data-driven way to improve the efficiency of its many IT development teams. Despite training and standard improvement methods, the company wanted a clearer baseline for comparing performance across 40 teams building and maintaining critical custom applications. CAST helped Hapag-Lloyd establish an empirical performance baseline using Automated Enhancement Points and effort tracking to measure software size and output. The results gave the company actionable insight into productivity, code ownership, and reporting, with findings confirmed by teams and product managers. CAST also revealed that smaller teams were more efficient, experience improved productivity, and performance varied by as much as tenfold across teams.
