AREVA, a global leader in nuclear engineering, manufacturing and services, faced the challenge of managing a large, heterogeneous portfolio of about 150 management applications (languages and platforms including C, Java, Oracle FORMS, Fortran, Cobol, SAP, etc.) while transitioning most development and maintenance to an outsourcer. With IT staff shrinking from 250 to 40, the company needed to retain technical control, accelerate knowledge transfer, avoid delivery and cost risks, and ensure application quality and maintainability during and after outsourcing.

AREVA adopted CAST’s Application Intelligence to build a technical knowledge base, perform objective code-quality assessments, and support contract negotiation and monitoring. Using CAST they rapidly transferred a strategic application (350 Oracle tables, 300,000 lines of C, 150 Forms), made code analysis a standard pre-transfer practice, generated call graphs for security filtering, and put in place verification reports—resulting in faster, evidence-based outsourcing, stronger control of intellectual capital, and improved quality and governance of outsourced services.
