The Hershey Company Teams with Cass for Freight Audit & Payment Solutions

The Hershey Company, the global confectionery and snack maker behind brands like Hershey’s, Reese’s, and Twizzlers, needed better visibility into freight costs to support profitable growth. With high shipment volumes, complex carrier bids, and seasonal spikes, Hershey struggled to accurately audit freight invoices, manage carrier inquiries, and understand the true cost to move each product. It turned to Cass Information Systems for freight audit and payment services.

Cass Information Systems implemented outsourced freight audit, payment, and reporting processes integrated with Hershey’s systems and SAP data warehouse. Cass helped automate invoice matching, apply Hershey-specific rules, improve carrier communication, and provide detailed cost reporting, eliminating a separate Microsoft Access warehouse. The results included processing and paying 280,000 invoices in 2014, reducing Hershey’s internal workload to just two staff handling exceptions, and giving the company much better company-wide visibility into freight costs with very few issues found in a later secondary audit.
