Florida Department of Health Uses Cloud Computing to Publish Environmental Health Data

The Florida Department of Health’s Division of Environmental Public Health faced a growing demand to publish inspection records (pools, food hygiene, biomedical waste, group homes, etc.) but lacked the staff and budget to build web applications, leaving many records behind and forcing staff to respond manually to public records requests.

Web manager Eric Montgomery adopted Caspio’s cloud-based visual database tools to create searchable, embeddable web applications without heavy programming. Within months the division deployed more than a dozen apps (first launched in 2009–2011), dramatically speeding access to inspection data, reducing FOI workload, and enabling low-cost, rapid publication with plans to add more datasets.
