The Pocono Record, Monroe County’s daily newspaper in the Dow Jones Local Media Group, needed a simple way to deliver timely traffic information to a large commuter population traveling to New York and New Jersey. The challenge was to present live traffic flow, roadwork congestion and incident details on an easy-to-use map without heavy development resources.
Online producer John Misinco used Caspio Map Mashup v7 with Google Maps to pull data from multiple sources (PennDOT roadwork, 511PA incidents), add live traffic visualization and custom three-color/shape icons for severity — all configured via a no-code wizard. The result is a real-time, easy-to-navigate Poconos Traffic Center that improved the reader experience, sped deployment, reduced newsroom tech overhead, and set the stage for future automated feeds via Caspio DataHub.
