The University of Sydney Balances the Autonomy of Its Faculties & Schools With the Need to Stay Aligned to the Strategic Plan

The University of Sydney, Australia’s first university with over 50,000 students, faced the challenge of keeping a large federated organisation aligned to a single strategic plan while preserving autonomy for faculties and schools. To replace ad-hoc tracking in emails and spreadsheets and to ensure updates to goals reflected across multiple reports, The University of Sydney engaged Cascade and its cloud-based strategy platform to provide a single place for strategy and project information.

Cascade implemented linked sub-plans for faculties and schools that roll up to the university-wide strategy, delivered visual dashboards and cloud collaboration, and automated reporting to committees and regulatory bodies from a single source of truth. As a result, Cascade brought cohesion and structure across the university’s strategic work, reduced reliance on Excel and email, enabled centralized reporting for the vice‑chancellor, and made strategy updates and onboarding far quicker and more visible.
