Wecity maps cyclist safety across 18 Italian cities with CARTO

Wecity, a sustainable mobility app in Italy, faced the challenge of visualizing smartphone-generated location data from thousands of users to improve safety insights and indicators. They needed a location technology solution to seamlessly collect, visualize, and analyze this crowdsourced data.

Using CARTO's platform, notably its Builder tool with a widget-driven interface, Wecity implemented a solution to visualize and animate user journeys. This allowed Wecity to create clear visualizations, including an Urban Cyclability Index, from data collected monthly from 12,000 active users across 18 Italian cities. CARTO enabled them to rapidly prototype new services and provide unique mobility insights, supporting their work with local governments to build smarter cities.
