A CARTO Case Study
Spotify, the global music-streaming service with over 100 million active users, wanted to replicate a prior data-driven visualization that had driven 2 million extra visits in 11 days. The challenge was to produce a new, Spotify-branded interactive map that showcased city-level musical preferences worldwide to increase playlist visibility, social engagement and overall site traffic.
Using CARTO, Spotify built a custom-branded Musical Cities Map, importing location-based play data via Google Drive to create 1,000+ city playlists and interactive pop-ups that update near real-time (analyzing roughly 23 billion listener/track relationships) without backend developers. The map generated widespread social sharing and media coverage, boosted user participation and playlist visibility, and achieved more than 3 million views along with significantly increased traffic and brand awareness.
