A CARTO Case Study
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) required a modernized geospatial approach to tackle complex challenges in renewable energy potential modeling and climate-resilient infrastructure planning. Their team needed to perform advanced spatial analyses, such as siting wind farms and assessing community access to services during emergencies. To achieve this, they partnered with CARTO to leverage its location intelligence platform.
CARTO's solution enabled NREL's geospatial data science team to integrate AI, accelerating the creation of critical resource datasets by up to 100 times for climate modeling scenarios. Using CARTO, they developed climate-informed datasets projecting out to 2050 and conducted sophisticated network analyses for emergency planning. This modernization of their GIS techniques significantly enhanced NREL's research into renewable energy potential and community resilience, empowering more efficient and data-driven collaborations with government agencies and utilities.
