Case Study: ING achieves smarter neighborhood selection for homebuyers with CARTO spatial analysis

A CARTO Case Study

Preview of the ING Case Study

How ING use spatial analysis to drive Residential Real Estate decisions

ING, a Dutch multinational retail bank, needed a better way to help property buyers choose neighborhoods by focusing on location-based context rather than just property specs. The challenge was to gather and present large volumes of spatial data across five cities — covering schools, green spaces, services, demographics and up-to-date prices — in a clear, intuitive and mobile-friendly format.

ING built "Elige Bien tu Barrio" on the CARTO platform: a web app that combines housing prices and supply, demographics, points of interest and more into interactive maps (up to 24 variables) plus a 6-question match test. Launched in February 2019, the tool has drawn hundreds of thousands of users, been covered by 40+ media outlets, averages 10 minutes per session, and has helped ING boost customer value and mortgage positioning by delivering practical, location-driven insights.
