ConnectEast, the owner and operator of Melbourne's EastLink toll road, faced the challenge of managing its road infrastructure with an inefficient, paper-based asset management system. This outdated process was time-consuming and involved manually scanning, transcribing, and uploading documents. To modernize their operations, ConnectEast worked with vendor CARTO and its partner NGIS to implement a Location Intelligence platform.

The solution built on the CARTO platform was a map visualization application for both desktop and mobile that uses GPS data to physically identify all assets. This allowed office staff and field crews to instantly access and search for asset information and work orders. By implementing CARTO's technology, ConnectEast made its day-to-day maintenance work more safe and efficient, eliminating confusion and ensuring work is reported correctly on the correct assets.
