Squarespace - Customer Case Study

Squarespace, a New York–based company founded in 2004 with more than 550 employees, faced the challenge of managing stock options for hundreds of employees—processing exercises, tracking terminations, and answering equity-related questions—while staying compliant with Rule 701, NSO tax withholdings, and the $100K ISO limitation. To address this, Squarespace adopted Carta’s equity management platform, including the Carta personal portfolio and Success team, to centralize employee ownership information and support compliance workflows.

Carta implemented automated compliance tools and an intuitive, design-forward platform that streamlined issuing option grants, processing exercises, filing tax forms, and running Rule 701 checks. As a result, Squarespace simplified administration for its equity program across more than 550 employees, gave staff instant, tranche-by-tranche access to their vesting schedules and grant details, and enabled employees to exercise options directly on the Carta platform—making compliance and day-to-day equity management easier and more transparent.
