Case Study: Electric Mojo Guitars eliminates currency conversion errors with Cart-Power

A Cart-Power Case Study

Electric Mojo Guitars fixes currency conversion errors across 4 currencies with Cart-Power

Electric Mojo Guitars, an online Canadian retailer of electric guitar equipment, faced a critical challenge with its CS-Cart online store. Their international customers preferred to pay in their local currencies, but a floating point calculation error during conversion to the store's base currency caused payment systems to reject orders. The vendor, Cart-Power, was tasked with ensuring the order total was accurate to the last decimal place in all currencies to make payments possible.

Cart-Power implemented a solution by decoupling prices from the exchange rate. Instead of automatic conversion, the vendor modified the CS-Cart platform so that administrators could set fixed product and shipping prices manually in each of the four currencies: US dollars, Canadian dollars, euros, and pounds sterling. This eliminated the conversion error entirely. To manage pricing efficiently, Cart-Power utilized a bulk import feature for automatic updates from the manufacturer, ensuring the solution was not administratively burdensome. The result was that buyers could now pay seamlessly in any of the four available currencies without any conversion errors.
