Commonwealth War Graves Commission creates timeless portraits for Windsor Castle with Carswell Gould

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission commissioned Carswell Gould to create a powerful and personal visual tribute for a prestigious event at Windsor Castle. Their challenge was to honour the individual stories of service personnel while reflecting their collective strength, engaging a high-profile audience with a striking and emotionally resonant installation.

Carswell Gould developed an installation of multi-layered boards featuring black-and-white portraits. From a distance, each board shows a dignified face, but up close, the image dissolves into a mosaic of thousands of names of others who served from that person's country, accompanied by a story summary and QR code. The installation was met with praise at the Windsor Castle event, attended by Their Majesties The King and Queen. Due to its positive reception, the client displayed the boards in their Maidenhead office and plans to send them to other locations, demonstrating the solution's lasting impact and versatility.
